A pleasant and varied one way walk lakeside through a scenic landscape.
Suitability
Suitable for walkers of all ages, horse riders and mountain bikers. Dogs allowed on leash only.
Highlights
This is one for everyone’s bucket list. Called the Main Track, the multi-use trail goes from Maddock Park on the northern side of the lake to Gympie Street North, near Landsborough.
This very scenic trail offers lots of photo opportunities along lake’s edge, including distant Glass House Mountains, waterlilies and other aqua plants. You pass through tall stands of Eucalypts and other forest trees as well as groves of palms and paperbark trees in wetlands that are buzzing with vibrant blue and burnt red dragonflies (in Spring).
The trail is enhanced by a variety of birdlife throughout: willy wagtails, finches, whip birds, parrots, kingfishers, grey herons, ducks and pukekos, even pelicans in the distance. Along the way, near the lakes edge, you'll pass a big burnt out stump, once a giant a tree.
An undulating path, Main Track borders some horse properties in parts. With no powerboats allowed on the lake it’s a quiet, peaceful, and highly-recommended journey.
There are some occasional trip hazards and a few minor muddy sections, but in the main, it's a very straight forward and accessible path.
Afterwards
The beauty of this trail is at the end you can easily follow the road into Landsborough, a short distance away. The first turn on your left will take you back into the main street to bakeries and CJs Patisseries. Nom nom! Another equally pretty multi-use trail to add to your bucket list is the Bracalba Shared Trail in the Glass House Mountains Conservation Park west of Wamuran.
How to get there
To the starting point: Heading south on the M1, at the Caloundra,turn-off, take Steve Irwin Way south. After 3 km turn right into the Mooloolah Connection Road. Follow this road approx 1.5 km till you get to an SEQ Water sign for Ewan Maddock Dam Maddock Park. Turn left and drive down this road till you get to the car park. If you are heading north on Steve Irwin Way, Mooloolah Connection Road is approx. 6 km past Landsborough on your left.
From the carpark, walkers and mountain bikers start at the cement path and follow the cycle track sign. Horse-riders, if you follow the path to the right of the toilets towards Connection Road it will weave around to the start of the main track walk.
To the end point: The end point is the park gate entry at Gympie Street North. From the main shopping street in Landsborough (Cribb Street) head north and at the first T-junction you will hit Gympie Street North. Turn right and follow this road for about 550 metres. It will turn a corner into Tunnel Ridge Road, however continue straight ahead on Gympie Street N till the end where there is ample car parking, including for horsefloats.
Horseriders and mountain bikers might like to make this a there and back adventure starting from either end of the marked trail. Walkers are best to organise car shuttlers. Amenities are only available at the start on north side.

Really enjoyed this walk. The track is mostly shaded through the forest. It took our group of three adults about 2 hours to complete, with a few steeper sections in the middle. We saw dragonflies, ducks and plenty of little birds along the way. We parked a car at each end of the track, which saved us from walking the extra 8 km back. Afterwards, we cooled off with a swim at the designated swimming area near the playground. The toilets, BBQ facilities and picnic area around the car park were great, and the views from the BBQ area were lovely. We'll definitely be back for another walk and a BBQ lunch.
Fabulous track for a gravel bike. Very muddy at present however and thus may not be suitable for all
