A lovely boardwalk and short trail on the north side of Ewen Maddock Dam

SUITABILITY
Suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities.

HIGHLIGHTS

Start from the main car park and toilet facility at Ewen Maddock Park and walk along the cement path till you reach the first sheltered picnic area. Take the boardwalk off to the left and enjoy the serene experience of being suspended over the lake. The short board walk joins the fore shore trail. Follow this for another 200 metres or so till you come out at metal V gate for walkers. Immediately in front of you is an old tall stump of what was once a large tree. You can see the axe marks that the loggers used for their springboards to fall the tree. At this junction the path joins the main track, your turn around point. If you are after a longer walk continue left on this track over the hill and then take a side trail closer to the lake and walk on till you are ready to head back.

On this walk you will see grass trees, many different species of Eucalyptus, paperbark trees and high blue green sedge grass growing on the dam's bank. There are also distance Glass House Mountain views. Dogs allowed on leads only.

AFTERWARDS
On this side of the dam are great picnic areas to enjoy as well as a designated swimming spot for a refreshing dip in the dam. Note how soft the water is. You can also launch paddle craft from here to explore the various reaches of the dam. There are numerous tracks to enjoy as part of the Dam’s surrounds, with the main western track starting at this point.

HOW TO GET THERE
To the starting point: Maddock Park is just off the Mooloolah Connection Road, Mooloolah, in the Glass House Mountains area, approximately three kilometres from Landsborough on the Sunshine Coast.

Heading south on the M1, at the Caloundra,turn-off, take Steve Irwin Way south. After 3 km turn right into the Mooloolah Connection Road. Follow this road approx. 1.5 km till you get to an SEQ Water sign for Ewan Maddock Dad Maddock Park. Turn left and drive down this road till you get to the car park. If you are heading north on Steve Irwin Way, Mooloolah Connection Road is approx. 6 km past Landsborough on your left. There is ample parking including for trailers /horse floats and well-maintained ablution blocks.

To the end point: The end is the same as your starting point.

A great little on-leash adventure for dogs - with plenty to see and smell. It's well worth taking this little detour from the main track to check out the boardwalk bordering the dam. Be sure to stop at the viewing platform to take in the views before continuing into into the forest. Further down the trail you'll have the option to continue your journey as it joins up to the main track.
