A green little urban circuit at the back of old Tewantin near the netball courts and golf course.
SUITABILITY
Suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities – it’s a flat circuit.
HIGHLIGHTS
This is a quick and easy escape, basically around the sporting grounds (tennis, netball and softball fields). Nevertheless it has parts of a natural feeling single track. From behind the softball clubhouse, and behind the netball courts , there is a playground off to the north. Head that way and follow the path. Per the coloured map you turn left after about 500 metres and continue walking through a forested area that will eventually bring you out to Butler street near the ambulance station and the cemetery. Take the shared pathway back to the Butler Street / McKinnonn Drive roundabout and head back to your starting. Just before the roundabout you will come across an underpass which you can take to walk or cycle down Poinciana Avenue to the main shops of Tewantin.
Get your urban explorer going!
AFTERWARDS
The shared walkway down McKinnon drive continues for some way – great for striding out or cycling.
Not far along McKinnon Drive is a beautiful fire trail walk through Palm forests and white gums that leads you up to Mount Tinbeerwah. It’s a much longer walk but well worth it when you are feeling up to it.
The Tewantin Sports Ground Circuit (Sir Thomas Riley Park) is very close to Tewantin town centre, complete with cafes, art gallery and ferry stop at the marina. It’s worth a stop. Check out Zabe Cafe in the mainstream and the Icecream parlour at the Marina. There is often live music there on Sunday afternoons and Friday nights.
HOW TO GET THERE
To the starting point: Head to McKinnon Drive, Tewantin, and park on the left handmade near the sporting fields ((Sir Thomas Riley Park). Note: you might want to avoid this on a week-end morning when there are lots of fixtures on and cars about.
To the end point: Back in the car park where you started.
