A great first ride at Sugar Bag it is a good introduction to the trails but it is recommended that you have a bit of MTB time under your belt before you have a go on these trails. Have a go at ferny forest if it’s your first time on a mountain bike and then this is the next step.

This was my first time mountain biking so apologies if the terms or descriptions arent perfect. We went with a group run through CORCA who taught us some introductory skills and things before hand, so going into the trails we were fairly prepared at what to expect. We rode mainly on the Sweet Sugar (the Gift) trail which was about 4kms and geared towards the beginners so it's mostly green or blue with some of the less intense obstacles, but there are a few blacks throughout (there's always an option to go around it on a side path though so don't worry). The trail wasn't too difficult for a beginner - there isnt much uphill and the downhill sections arent very steep so it's easy to keep control of the bike. The trail is kept in good condition, clear of branches and its obvious where the trail goes for the entire length. The most challenging bit if you avoid the obstacles is the roots in the trail giving some small drops and bumps to ride over so it doesnt just feel like a ride through a park. We did have a go at some of the obstacles on the way. They're mostly constructed wooden ramps (one was just a hollowed out fallen tree) that are probably about 0.5m wide and apart from the black grades, probably all less than 0.5m high as well so while it feels like a fun intense challenge for a first timer, the risk is pretty low. The website makes it pretty clear where the trail goes and where to start (on sugar bag road kind of opposite the water towers, but its marked on google maps) and from the carpark the routes are all easy to spot and signed. There's also a map to check the difficulties and see the lengths of each trail. We saw some of the obstacles on the other trails as we were going around and they definitely get a lot more difficult (up to double black) so i'd think that sugar bag road would have something for everyone. I'd definitely recommend sweet sugar to other beginner/intermediate level mountain bikers looking for somewhere to start. Cant really say for the other trails but they all looked well constructed and maintained so i'm pretty sure theres something for everyone. Have fun!!

Great ride but some tough timber elements that would do with a ride round options if its too intense for first timers. Would be good to see some uploaded go-pro runs on this site
